17 Deaf students of Graham Bell Centre for the Deaf appear in Madhyamik Examination 2026

17 Deaf students from rural areas of Hooghly district, West Bengal appeared for the Madhyamik Examination 2026, marking a significant milestone in their educational journeys. Most of these students are first-generation learners, coming from families where there is no formal education. Graham Bell Centre for the Deaf played a pivotal role in preparing these students for the examination. Understanding the unique learning needs of Deaf students, we arranged subject based special preparatory classes based on Deaf teaching methodologies. These classes emphasized visual learning, concept clarity through sign language, and exam-oriented guidance.

Alongside academic preparation, GBCD ensures interpreting support during the Madhyamik Examination 2026. Our sign language interpreters facilitate clear communication of examination instructions, enabling the students to participate on an equal footing with their hearing peers.

Beyond direct student support, GBCD’s continuous engagement, sensitization meetings, and on-ground guidance result in government school teachers have begun to understand that interpreting support is not an external accommodation but a legitimate educational right of Deaf students. This change in perspective has encouraged schools to initiate formal processes; including applying for permission letters and submitting required documentation to the Board to ensure interpreting support during the examination.
