Graham Bell centre for the Deaf has organized a training programme for ICDS workers of Balagarh Block on the identification and early signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) on 14.05.2026 & 15.05.2026 at Balagarh Panchayet samiti Hall, Jirat, Hooghly. The objective of the training was to enhance the knowledge and skills of frontline workers in identifying developmental delays and autism-related behaviors among young children at an early stage. Total 269 ICDS workers and 07 ICDS supervisors along with Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of Balagarh block attended the training programme. During the session, participants were oriented on communication difficulties, social interaction challenges, repetitive behaviours, sensory issues, and the importance of early intervention. The training also focused on the role of ICDS workers in community-level screening, counselling parents, and timely referral of children for assessment and rehabilitation services.
The resource persons from Graham Bell Centre for the Deaf shared practical experiences and case examples from their ongoing work with children with ASD. GBCD highlighted its initiatives in assessment, special education, speech therapy, occupational therapy, parental counselling, and inclusive education support for children with autism. The programme encouraged active participation and discussion among ICDS workers regarding challenges faced in the field. The participants appreciated the informative session and expressed their willingness to support early identification and intervention for children with autism in their respective areas.
