Graham Bell Centre for the Deaf (GBCD) celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great enthusiasm across its four intervention blocks in Hooghly District. The celebration brought together children and persons with disabilities (CwDs/PwDs), their parents, peers, community members, well-wishers to commemorate the spirit of freedom, unity, and inclusion.
The programme began with the hoisting of the National Flag, singing National Anthem with Indian Sign Language. The children actively participated in various cultural activities, including dance and mime performances, which created an atmosphere of joy and enthusiasm. Their participation reflected their confidence, creativity.
Honourable Dr. Kanwar Bhushan Singh (SP, Hooghly Rural Police), Priyabrata Bakshi (DSP, D&T), Abhijit Sinha Mahapatra (DSP, Crime) and others police officials had joined the celebrations and spent valuable time with the children and their families across four blocks. They interacted with the participants, encouraged them to pursue their education and participate in sports, and distributed gifts to the children. The presence and encouragement of the police officials were highly appreciated by the children, parents, and GBCD team.
During the programme, the police officials also expressed to assist GBCD for the welfare, protection, inclusion, and development of children with special needs.
In recognition of GBCD’s contribution, Superintendent of Police have felicitated Honorable Director of GBCD for his dedicated work towards inclusion and empowerment of CwDs & PwDs.
Their participation reflected the humane and compassionate face of the Police and their commitment to serving the community. We sincerely appreciate the social commitment and Inclusive approach of the Hooghly Rural Police towards building a more compassionate and Inclusive society.
Overall, the Independence Day celebration was a meaningful occasion that promoted inclusion, participation, confidence, and community support for children and persons with disabilities. The event successfully brought different sections of the community together to celebrate the values of independence and equal opportunity.
